A Vision of Students Today

Two simple but powerful videos posted on YouTube paint a profile of today�s students and the gap between the way in which they learn best and the way in which our schools attempt to educate them.

According to “A Vision of K-12 Students Today,” posted at YouTube by “ bjnesbitt”, today’s typical K-12 student spends:

3 ½ hours a week gaming
16 ½ hours a week watching T.V.
5 ½ hours a week on the computer
and 2 hours a week reading a book

He or she will have 14 jobs before the age of 38 years, and most of these are jobs that do not exist today.

“We are digital learners,” says a sign held up by one of the students, And yet, add others, “76% of my teachers have never used wikis, blogs, or podcasts.”

So, they wonder, “If we learn by doing, what are we learning sitting here?”
